It is possible for me to buy an F22b crankshaft, coming from an Honda Shuttle 2.2, so it will be possible for me to install it into my other spare block, an H22A ...
So i don't know what to do    open deck vs closed deck...

What where you thinking the problem is with the H23 vtec? I was going to build one but the crank I have is knackered.

The problem is the rev limit : the H23 is known to be not able reving as high as an H22 engine and there are several reasons for that ( it is what i have read on many threads talking about h23 vtec build) .

If you keep an oem H23 bottom end with an H22 head, it won't be any problem if you don't rev higher than the oem h23 rev limit.
But if you want to rev higher, without the proper modifications , there's a lot of risks you will blow your rods bearings or break the cranckshaft.

If i have understand correctly, building an H23 vtec is not as simple as puting a vtec head on a h23 block.

my build is technically a H23 vtec as im using a F22 crank and rods (same as H23) in a H22 block, head and pistons.
with this it gives a higher stroke.

Thanks for the sharing , Drax, i'll look at your topic as soon as i can! :D

For the moment, i didn't progress at all, it is still the holidays here for the machinists so i didn't yet know how much it will cost to me to overbore my h23 block

After a closer look, i saw that one of the cylinders of my H23 have a little mark and it is really difficult to find someone here to hone the bore...
So i was looking for another engine block and fortunatly, i found one here, provided by H10ndr ( a great thanks !!! :D ).

Now, i have to find someone to balance my crankshaft ...

Some news of my engine build :D

I decided to begin with something "easy" : the oïl pump modification...

I don't want to keep the balancing shaft, so i have to close the oïl passages on the oïl pump. I decide to weld them  , as i have a spare oïl pump and as i can train myself with it...
The welding seems to be solid, i have to machine two aluminium plug for the shafts passages , they will be welded too...

I know there's a lot of easier way to do the same thing ( tapered hole and blind bolts, freeze plugs,...) but it is easier for me to weld them, i just hope that the pump housing will not be distorded or will no crack itself

I'll do some pictures next week :D

I still don't know if i'll shim the pump or not , i believe that it is not necessary but i'll see that later...

I will also "port" the oïl pump, as it seems possible to gain oïl flow with a good porting, i need as much oïl as possible...

Have a nice "year end" :D

If you port the pump, bear in mind that you may gain oil flow rate, but at the same time lose oil pressure. It needs to be worked through all the way.

just a thought - perhaps it is possible to use an oil pump from different, high revving honda engine (f20c ie.)?
i'm no expert by any means, but as far as my understanding goes - for higher revs you should have proper oil pressure, which i'm not sure will be provided with better flowing fuel pump that is not meant to provide higher pressure especailly since bigger bore = less velocity (pressure in this case) .. maybe someone with experience and knowledge could comment on that?

this kind of build has crossed my mind for a couple of times, but lack of knowledge and locally available parts has kept me away from it.

Thanks for the input to you both :D

About the modification i'm doing, it is the same work done by "Endyn" , i didn't have any link about the H22 pump but only about D-series oïl pump

http://www.theoldone.com/articles/d_ser ... ding_tips/

In all case, the oïl pressure will be controlled in way to ensure a proper oiling, as this engine will need enough oïl flow and oïl pressure :D
I'll gain oïl pressure by removing the balancer shaft and pluging the balancer shaft oïl passages and i hope to keep a good flow rate by porting the oïl pump.
We will see if it is a good way to go or not, i have another oïl pump so i can test it until the engine didn't spun any bearing

About a replacement of the gears, it is difficult to found any replacement part, i know for example that the gears of the B20A7 would be a proper upgrade... ... but it is too big to be installed in the housing
But any alternative solution will be welcome :D
