Shitty week....

Dropped off the Prelude on Sunday Nov 27th to get the h23 swap underway...

Come Monday Nov 28....the crv engine seized :suicide:

Called my guy told him to stop the work on the prelude, luckily he hadn't started and told him what happened and he said no problem.

Dropped off the V at the shop and going with a K24a swap :) and later down the road doing the 5spd to 6spd conversion

When its clean...

Just before getting dropped off:

And engine arrived today:
Exhaust bolts confirm its a very low mileage engine :D

 that's rare for a Honda engine to fail!
Any idea why?

UPDATE ON THE V:

So engine is not seized, one of the pressure plate fins broke off and jammed the flywheel preventing engine from spinning. Here are some pics.

Image

Engine still works, but after considering all things that need to be done to the current engine I told my tech to go ahead and just swap the engine.

Current Engine
- 290,000 km
- Burns 1 Litre of oil every 800ish km's
- Couple of oil leaks

Since i am planning on keeping it as my Daily for a couple of years I figured why not just swap the engine since its already at the shop. Going to keep the current engine as a spare. Maybe a future project lol.

Update:

Engine has been installed and drives amazing! Love it.

Image

The missing vent pipe from air box to valve cover is missing in the pic but it was installed right after.

However the engine is throwing this code: P0171

Image

During the swap the intake manifold from the usdm engine was used on the k24a jdm engine because they were slightly different and the original throttle body was also cleaned and re used. This code was not there prior to the swap.

I have looked it up on google and it basically narrows down to the fuel system and MAF sensor. Would the fuel rail from the JDM have a different pressure compared to the usdm one?

Any thoughts?

Another Update, looks like this is has now promoted itself from a Daily to a 2nd project.....

Got the opportunity to get a few parts!

oem roof rack!

re threaded the rack mounting holes to clean it up and sprayed some rust check in there.

Swapped in some leathers from an Automatic so i can get the ARM REST! Had to swap over the centre cup holder console since the automatic one is longer and hits the Manual shifter.

Also since these are heated seats opposed to my cloth which were not, the connector on driver side is different for the SRS power. So have to do some re wiring and also going to wire up the heated seats :) Any questions with that feel free to ask, I will be using the oem 2 button switch for driver and passenger side and creating my own harness.

Just wanted to update on the P0171 Code:

Engine swap was done about 2.5 weeks ago and the only thing swapped was the intake manifold as the jdm manifold wasn't the same.

40 km after driving i got the code p0171.

Took it back to the shop and swapped out the fuel rail since i figured the pressure for the jdm fuel rail/injectors might be different than the usdm rail/injectors.

So now with the USDM rail and regulator 100 km after driving i got the code again.

So here we see that made a change and it was consistant, i reset it around 80-100 km and it comes back again.

Took it back to the shop and swapped out with the usdm injectors since I thought the jdm ones might have a different CC rating and my car isn't tuned for that so now after swapping the injectors the problem seems to have been fixed.

I have done 400 km in the last 4 days and no code so far.

I'll update again in a couple of days to see if the issue is back or not but it looks promising.

So woke the prelude up last week, went to crank it and it sputters then shut down. Tried boosting it and all it did was whine like the timing belt broke.

Removed the valve cover and had my buddy try starting it, while cranking both cams were spinning which means belt is good and timing looked to be proper. Took 1 L of motor oil and poured it all over the intake and exhaust cams and let it sit for a week. While doing testing my ground from the battery to transmission blew up!

A week later I bypassed that ground by connecting battery jumper cables from negative terminal to the transmission

So once i got it cranking again the motor sputtered! which is a sign of ignition trying to happen. So i was like OOOOOhhhhh, had him crank again and again and slowly it started sputtering more and more and finally with a big puff of smoke it came alive

Just waiting on a new cable i ordered from honda to arrive, and in all of Canada (i'm in Toronto, Ontario) there was only one cable which is in VANCOUVER! Other side of the country.....

Here is a little video of the car while it was running in the driveway after i pulled it out last night, Don't mind the rattle i'm in the process of creating a new cooling plate which i will post more details on here. It wasn't secured properly so it was just rattling :) Prototype.

Glad it turned out to be an easy fix :) Normally with issues like that you normally end up replacing 4 or 5 other parts before you find the culprit
