New struts, gen5 where to find??
New struts, gen5 where to find??
Hello all, im new to the forum (preludes altogether really) and the lude iv purchased was on sleeves (horrible things) iv bought some 40mm springs and fitted. However on the n/s front it petrudes through the mount a little further then it should and on both sides it sounds like droplinks have gone. However there wasn't a noise before. Sorry about the rant lol, just need someone with knowledge, and where I can get new at a reasonable price. 5hanks gunny

Well done for changing out the sleeves.
what do you mean when you say "protrudes through the mount further than it should"? Can you post some pics?
For the knocking, are you sure you have re-seated and correctly tightened everything after the change out?
As for new, stock type shocks should be available from the usual suspects (motor factors, eBay etc). There were some delphi struts on eBay pretty cheap, from what I recall and have a look on rockauto.

Re: New struts, gen5 where to find??
Thanks all for the replies, turns out I missed the inner grommet in the top mount so all good now, iv found some struts (second hand but not leaking) so will get them fitted weekend. Iv only done the front springs and the difference in the ride is unbelievable!! Sleeves are horrendous, but then what do you expect for 50 quid lol. Just glad I have the car now to save her from car Heven because that is where she was headed. As for the mot I think it was a very dodgy one.

Re: New struts, gen5 where to find??
So iv finally finished the shocks and springs front and rear on the car, no more kangaroo lol. However i have noticed that anything above 60 and steering shakes (balancing??) and that she wonders on the road left, and then suddenly right (tracking??) car is on 18s but was never this way on the sleeves? could be because it was so solid? any help is greatly appreciated and will keep her going.
