Starter motor required
Post by kordafish » Sun Dec 04, 2016 4:46 pm
My starter motor has packed up, couldn't start it earlier so I read vanzep's piece on his starting issues and followed his lead with hitting the starter motor with a hammer, and hey presto she started first time! So I need to buy a replacement, does anyone know the best place to buy them? OEM part is top money and with Christmas just around the corner I would like to keep costs down if possible and I need one like yesterday!!!!

Auto or manual?
If you want to save the pennies, you could fix it yourself - they're very simple things. If the hammer trick sorted it, it will be one of only 2 causes - sticking solenoid or short brushes. Sticking solenoid can be sorted by strip, clean and re-grease (grease only of the manual tells you to) and if you can buy the brushes on their own, they're normally easy enough to change.

ek9sid,
Thanks for sending the link, I've had a look at it but it doesn't look the same and when I checked their listing my model comes up with "check part number not all fitted with same unit", or words to that effect
Arif has been in touch and he has one for sale which I will take so long as its for an automatic
Cheers
Sean

Not sure where you live mate, but there are people in Birmingham who would fit a starter motor for you and take yours in return to refurb and see onto the next person. Normally about 80 odd quids worth.
Might be an idea to do a google search
