rear view mirror
I feel just a little (ok a lot) dumb asking this question but here I go. My 2000 gen 5 is missing it's rear view mirror and I have a new (used) one to install. I popped off the lens over the interior light and found 2 phillips head screws under. Removed those and pulled down the plastic bulb holder (abt 70mm x 130mm) however the larger cover (abt 160mm x 180mm) seems quite content just where it is and will not move. Now I do own a large assortment of hand and power tools and am confident in my ability to get that thing off and access the mirror mounting screws but I'd like to reuse it. Any suggestions?

I am also interested in this thread. I pulled my mirror out on the weekend trying to snap off a car scent.

The larger plastic cover plate is retained by 3 hooks along the rear edge and 2 bayonet fasteners, one at each front corner. If you give the front edge a sharp tug straight down it will pop loose. Then tilt it down and the rear hooks will disengage. If you do this in cold weather, warm the interior with the car heater or a small space heater as cold plastic is more likely to break. Good luck!

Im not the one who is going to be doing it, but will pass the info on.
It will get sorted when my LSD gearbox goes in next week.
