TBH I though I had you, then right at the end you zoom by. I'll post up that vid as well.
yep i would never have lived that one down - just as well the old girl seems to get another boost at 80mph+
newkid wrote:Apart from the rain and fact none of us fwd could get traction it was still a good day.
if only the weather had cleared up after midday as it was supposed to
was epic getting in as many runs as we did - i managed 15 runs and unless ive counted wrong you had 32 runs
thats one record you have that may never be beaten :)
wurlycorner wrote:Helix ultra is an excellent oil, but... :? 5w-30 on an old engine? :? Have to say I think that is a bad move...
appreciate the concern Iain and it is a bit of a calculated gamble as the engine is untouched and has over 191,000miles on it but if you go by the owners manual 5w-30 is the right oil for the climate here in Scotland. im thinking the thinner oil and Hamp shortie filter should mean that the oil circulates quickly preventing more wear. The fact that its Shell Helix Ultra Professional and was under £15 for 5l also helped make my mind up :)
NafemanNathan wrote:My thoughts exactly. 5 or so oil pump failures over the past few years on the forum and all were running 5w30/40 :?
i thought they were all 5th gens that failed and it was one brand of oil in particular that seemed to be implicated (Fuchs and its Fuc ked!)

I will keep an eye/ear on it over the next month or so and report any findings :geek:

Its a tough old engine in the BB4 - bearing in mind its had autotensioner failure, slipped teeth on timing belt at least twice and the crank pulley came loose and threw the aux belts off-iv also run it 2 teeth out on one cam and one tooth out on the other for about 2 years

Nah, they were majority 4th gens I think. I had suspected it was Fuchs at first as both mine and the second (can't remember who it was now, possibly Ste) were using Fuchs, but the later ones were using different brands. All were 5w30 or 40 though and generally all occurred within months of switching from 10w40.

Let's just hope it's not the final straw :?

The Lude is never that great off the line / pulling away from low speed. I see it all the time dragging up the main straight at Knockhill. Its only when you get over 60 mph does the Lude really get in its stride in comparison with other cars.

The Elgrand is a piece of pi$$ to drive. Hold the brake with your Left foot and then foot to the floor and it takes care of everything for you. 260 lb/ft at work too but no traction control.
