cheers for the pics @newkid :)
you can see how much mud is in my tyres from when we took at wrong turn and you lead us down a dirt track just as we approached Crail

ive had a closer look at the times for the day and i did better than i thought :P
lost out to R32 Golf by 0.1 and nearly a full 2 seconds to Skyline R33 GTR.
all other 6 runs were a win.
my fastest run of 15.31 was with a passenger on board
i feel confident i can get in 14's

i think next time i will be lowering the tyres pressures from 32 all round to 28 at the front and 30 at the rear and changing the settings on the shocks from 100 front and 80 rear to 80 front and 100 rear.

not much been happening with the BB4 except it decided to spring a leak on the fuel return line - had to drop the tank and replace the corroded metal and rubber pipe with some nice new braided line.
bad news - the main fuel line is looking a bit tired and will probably need to be replaced at some point.
- all these pipes to and from the tank seem overly complicated
good news - got some free weight loss on the chassis when the large heat shield over the back box decided to collapse - big heavy old piece and it just disintegrated into a pile of rust when i wrestled it out :?

shes ready to rock and roll at Crail at Sunday but im just going to get under the car and check every nut and bolt is tight before i set off :)

BB4 1/4r Mile round 2 (wet)

Post by vanzep » Mon Jun 13, 2016 11:08 am

2nd time at Crail for the 1/4r mile this year

oil change - castrol gtx 10w-40 semi synth replaced with shell helix ultra pro 5w-30
fitted the carbon fibre bonnet
rotated the tyres
checked underneath the car - all ok

Weather was wet and the track felt very greasy so struggled for traction and times were not that good.
15 runs with 1 loss to an EVO X (340bhp)
Best i could do was 15.98 @ 95.1mph
Frustrating as i felt the car was running well and was looking to better my previous times.
Thought i was going to get shown up when i had a run against @Merlin in his Elgrand and saw him storm into the lead and hold that until i picked up some speed in the last third
Just a note to say i wouldnt compare any of the times set at Crail with times set at Santa Pod etc. The track at Crail is bit rough to say the least.

Merlin should have a vid of one run from inside my lude - i hope there was not too much swearing :?

Sad end to the day when i got a call from @newkid to say his lude had died on the way home - went out to help but nothing i could do :(

Helix ultra is an excellent oil, but... :? 5w-30 on an old engine? :? Have to say I think that is a bad move...

My thoughts exactly. 5 or so oil pump failures over the past few years on the forum and all were running 5w30/40 :?
