im just pleased to get it fitted - these jobs always seem to be a fair bit of hassle for me
bodywork is not my speciality

been for a good run today and i do like the way it looks and runs and the 4ws is very good imo - this means thats the end to any modifications with the exception of these OEMish upgrades as part of my planned maintenance this year :)

H22 to H23 manual tensioner conversion and new belts
ATR cams
ATR Clutch
Type S intake+ K&N panel

A lot less gubbins in the engine bay to get in the way on yours though Merlin! :D

Vanzep, how comes going manual tensioner on this?

Very true although it is not the daunting task it used to be.

Vanzep, how comes going manual tensioner on this?

Originally I was going to stick with the autotensioner but if the engine is coming out then i might as well go for manual tensioner for long term reliability. So i sold all the auto tensioner parts i had and bought a manual tensioner kit instead.
Ive also got the option to fit one or more of the following ATR cams, ATR head, modified ATR intake mani. Jun copy flywheel. :?
If i go the whole hog and fit the lot then i would need chipped ecu (p28etc) with hondata S300 and a tune.
So ive got myself in a right pickle and will need to think carefully about what im going to do.
Im in two minds about doing any of this work as i dont really want to change the character of the car too much as its smooth driveability in and around town and ability to comfortably cruise long distances is something i want to keep.
I guess its a case of too many ludes and too many parts
Any advice is welcome!

BB1 KV85's and Type S intake

Post by vanzep » Sat May 28, 2016 4:00 pm

Got a couple of upgrade parts fitted today. :)
Th magnecore KV85's were a kind payment for help getting an A8 engine up and running and the Type S intake were p/x for some driveshafts. Both items were in very good condition so decided to go ahead and stick them on the lude.
I retained the original lower airbox on the intake as it sits a bit lower than the Type S. Also note the small rubber pad on the bottom of the original intake - ive never seen that before on any lude. There is quite a few little details like this on the car that make me think the early ludes were indeed better made ;)

pic showing difference in height between type s and 4th gen intake - looks like it could just be the height of the rubber foot that the airbox rests on - i guess these could be swapped accross but airbox looks identical apart from that.

Same plans me for my UKDM. best Oem upgrades. 8-)
You'll find that the cruise cable rubs on the underneath of the bonnet liner now - does on my UKDM. It's annoying

Re: BB1 IACV woes

Post by vanzep » Tue May 31, 2016 11:18 am

ive had an issue with cold start and occasional low idle issues since i got the car and have gradually been replacing parts and trying to trace this fault. the car always starts ok but it take 3 goes at cranking it to get it going ive also had a an occasional low idle once its up to temp and on a hot restart.
ive replaced the HT leads, main relay, air filter&intake, spark plugs & cleaned the throttle body all of which have improved things a bit - after all this i thought it might be fuel related so put some fuel line cleaner thought it and yesterday i replaced the fuel filter thinking that would be the final piece of the puzzle.
On further checking this morning i found that the IACV was weeping from the base so i removed it and replaced it with the spare i have. Now its bouncing like a bitch on heat
Im going to have another go at bleeding it again but im sure the spare IACV i used is one i got from @Merlin and i seem to remember he had tried a number of IACVs and they all bounced the idle so guessing the IACV is faulty and i will need to source a known good working unit

If it isn't bled properly it will bounce, but you are going to be bleeding it again anyway.

The Type-S / H22a8 air box looks good in there. Shame they didn't put that intake on all the Ludes.
