New mot ruling regarding catalytic converters??
Post by ADS1 » Mon May 30, 2016 7:07 pm
Despite the fact that my 92 bb4 has gone through the last 6 m o t''s without a cat, on saturday it failed for not having a cat fitted. I explainnd to the garage that it has not had one fitted for past 6 years (different garage to previous years). They said the laws have now changed, and it must have a cat fitted. Is anyone aware of this, or had similar experience? Or were they just giving me a load of bull?

I think that is a load of guff. While that might be correct for a uk car or a JDM car with the same chassis type as a uk car the bb4 is not on the not testers database so he does not know that the car had a cat from the factory.
It will still be a non cat test. My bb4 only passed its mot 5 weeks ago,

Yeah, but you could tell a fib and just say the original section rotted out, and you could only a UK mid section that needed a decat to be the right length... You'd be unlucky to find a tester who knows 4th gen ludes well enough to call your bluffmercutio wrote:yeah but if it didnt come with one it wouldnt have a decat?

Had mine tested the other day. It's decat'd but I provide the cat. It passed without him fitting the cat because the emissions were low enough without it. A lot dies depend on the MOTer, but that guy you've used got it wrong.
