Egr valve blanking
Post by fithotblonde » Sun May 29, 2016 1:51 pm
Just a quick one. About to make an fit a blanking plate for my egr valve. Am I right in thinking it just a solid plate that fits between the valve an the engine. Or is there a vacuum thing going on with it thanks. Blonde

Yes have you deleted egr with the ecu? To delete the while system it needs stitching off from the obd1 ecu.

It is that simple. But you have to keep your egr connected to the loom. In simple words you just put a metal plate to block any exhaust gasses to flow through the valve itself and back to the combustion chamber. ECU still see it and operate it so no cell. I have used a 3mm aĺloy plate.
If you wana completely remove it from the engine bay then ECU modification is needed.
What it will give you?
Not much I think. A little bit more power - not noticeable in daily use, a bit more toxic farts as EGR was invented by "green people" to save the planet.
How to?
You don't really need this but...
Disconnect 3 pin plug and undo 2 nuts. Remove EGR valve. Next put it on alloy sheet and mark the cutting lines. Your blanking plate should have the same shape as the valve base. Drill 2 holes. Using any liquid gasket install everything on the engine. First your blanking plate and then valve and bolt this back. Just make sure your plate isn't to thick as you won't be able to secure it. Put 3 pin plug back in, check for leaks and open your beer. Job done.
I blocked mine for only one reason. Simply it started sticking and i had lovely orange light on the dash. So just cleaned valve itself, then checked for good operation, and blocked exhaust gasses from leaving carbon deposits on it for future peace of mind.
