i was on my mums for first 5 years, it was either 2800 quid a year or 600 no brainer really, we get screwed from every angle in this country if you can claw some money back from the robbing bastards then do it, lets work it out,

10 years of driving
minimum £1000 pound a year so far

Thats £10,000 that ive paid insurance companies to send me a bit of paper once a year!

Never claimed, Never crashed and never had any points!

My first year of driving I was a named driver under my dad's policy, he put me on it because I had a date and wanted to turn up in the Audi - he's a legendary dad

When I got a car I didn't share I took out my own policy. It was 2,100 a year roughly, but well worth it. It was nice to know that no matter how bad I crashed I should be covered :P a couple of years later and it's 600 fully comp on my Golf, and got a quote recently for my Accord with a H22A swap for about 1,300 - I know it's a massive cost to have your own policy initially but it pays dividends after a couple of years 8-)

There are no loopholes in insurance, just misinformed people that think there are.

You have to bear in mind the policy price isn't just covering the value of your car. They'll be factoring in the risk of damage you could cause to a third party as well.

That's really surprising - I thought the whole point of NCB was it's an easy way for insurers to work out a discount for your safe driving & not incurring them any undue costs. I can't comprehend why it would ever cause an increase in price?

i get the impression from this thread and your advice to nitin over his non fault claim that you are/were employed in the insurance game. so what sort of money are the insurance companies making now compared to say 10 years ago ?
is it considerably more now or has the where there's blame there's a claim world absorbed all the profits of these extortionate premiums.

:
so if im 18 and hit another car i will cause more damage then when i hit car in age 32 ????

to be honest our insurance system is rip of, like why i need(must) pay more money if someone is not insured? its same like gas company knock on my door and say : hey buddy next door didnt pay bill so next month you will pay
more.

buy hey i pay in my 32 £850 insurance and drive my car twice a month :D max 50-60 miles/month, damn good deal

No, but statistically people my age cause more accidents than middle aged people, meaning we're more of a risk. So to cover the fact I'm more likely to cause an accident I have to pay more for my insurance :)
