Finally got round to replacing her shocks with the spare set of stock shocks and springs. Nick (the guy I'm sharing the barn with) has been showing me how to do stuff on the car, and then leaving me to get one with it (until I get stuck and ask for help :D ), so it's slow going. Got the front shocks replaced, and got her back down on her wheels again and wow what a difference !!
Image

I still need to do her rear shocks, and then she'll settle nicely - she looks really strange with her rear being so low

I also replaced her oil filter (my first time doing this on any car), and drained and replaced all her oil (first time too). Not sure if I mentioned, but a week ago, I also replaced her air filter with a K&N air filter, which will do until I get a proper CAI for her.

Also started painting some of the bits in the engine - not sure what colour we're going with, but blue is looking good so far.

I can't remember who it was that gave me the inspiration to replace the light in my boot with LEDs, but as I was so impressed with how well they worked (I bought the same lights they used), that I've done the same in the front of the car.

I sprayed the cabin light black (and removed the bulb) to match the black I will be spraying the inside roof of the car, as I wanted to use the switch on the cabin light to make the LEDs come on when the doors opened. They work really well, and really light up the front of the car.
Image

I have one such LED strip on either side of the car
Image

It looks like the LED doesn't light up the car much, but that's just because of the camera and the bright light from the LEDs. The whole front of the car is lit up in a nice white light from the LEDs.

Wow - that was a long night at the barn. Got the rear shocks done, but struggled with getting the nearside one off, without removing the caliper. Finally got it don,e and the replacement went in much easier. The offside rear ALSO gave me hassles, and i had to move the caliper out of the way to get the bolt at the bottom of the shock out. After that, removing it was easy, and replacement was a breeze.
I like the way she sits now. After a drive she'll settle a little more, and now I can get her alignment done. :D She should be a much smoother ride now too.

As I liked the LEDs that Nick has under the bonnet of his Soarer, I decided I wanted some on my Prelude as well (they're the same that I have in my boot and interior of the car). As I had a spare set, Nick went ahead and fitted them. They work really well. They connect to a switch that Nick put through the plastic fusebox cover inside the engine bay, and we ran the cables through the inside of the bonnet best we could, so as to keep it tidy. Most of the light on the engine bay in the picture below is from the LEDs, so great for when working on the engine :D

Also, as the braided brake lines and silicone radiator hoses I bought are blue, we decided to experiment with some blue paint inside the engine bay as well.

I also took some pictures of the interior LEDs to better show how they look and the light they provide. I'm really impressed with these LEDs

When I got the MOT done recently, the guy commented that rear brakes were fine, but a little weak compared to front. While swapping shocks, I noticed that the calipers do seem to require a bit of a good cleaning, and probably some regreasing / resealing. May look into getting some reconned ones from EuroCarParts, as they refund me for my old ones.

Ready for Japfest. She drives like a dream on her replacement shocks and springs. Definitely think her old shocks are toast, just made worse by the lowering springs. I like the way she sits now. Looks balanced.

This is the shiniest and cleanest I've ever seen her

Not happy at how the paint we used on the manifold cover was burning (dang it stinks) - it wasn't high heat paint, I decided to use some wrinkle finish paint instead. I like the way it's turned out (rocker cover still has the caliper paint I originally used on manifold cover)
Image

As I have a spare rocker cover, tonight I cleaned it up and used the same wrinkle finish paint on it. I like it  Probably going to get someone with steady hands to paint the text for me in white, though I sort of like it as is.
Image

Close-up to show the wrinkle effect a little more clearly. Yes, I know I missed some spots due to rushing the masking off process. I'll touch those spots up by hand later. The spark plug cover will cover the unpainted bit in the middle of the rocker cover, which is why I didn;t bother painting that bit.

My car is back on stock springs and shocks. It had a set of shocks with Apex lowering springs on which dropped the car WAY too much for my liking, so I replaced them with a set of shocks that had stock springs on.

Car looks good!

Why the moon roof on a track car though?

About to swap out the sunroof panel for a fibreglass bung on ours now. Less weight= more pace!

As I still use the car as a 'weekend' car, for shows and meets and enjoy the sunroof, I've left the sunroof (moonroof) in. Once I get her on the track and decide to take her off the road, I'll get serious about weight loss.

Would be keen to know where you got the fibreglass bung you are using.
