Time for an update on my Type-S..

I had to have the car off road as some of you know I recently got married, moved in to a new property and was just generally trying to save up some money for the monies I used on my weddings/parties. I could have sold the car like would most do but I decided to keep it and just have it back on road when I could. At least that way I don't have to look for another Type-S and do all the mods that I wanted to do.

So now, it's been off the road since 28th May 2015. I did give it a wash few times during the times it was on my driveway (simple jet wash with snow foam) just to keep the dirt from building up. And I did take it out for a spin around the road to free up the brakes etc.

Be prepared to see some disturbing picture of the car. I'm just putting up the current pics of the car as it stands so I can compare to what kind of clean/restoration I achieve at the end. I'll try and do all the little things I needed to do while the car is parked up.

Car how it sits on the drive:

Image

Carbon Fibre bonnet: White spots on the bonnet. And some of you might remember that at Japfest my bonnet got caught in the wind while I let the car cool down after the track session and it cracked the hinges so I had to put some black tape there to cover up the cracks.

Image

Door moulding: Some green moss/algae started growing there. Can be easily cleaned with some hot water and some polishing with exterior trim polish.

Image

Image

Petrol cap: I don't even know why this is so dirty..

Image

Rear wiper: Might need re-srpaying in black and new wipers.

Image

Rear of the car: Just generally dirty, cobwebs and green moss near the rear screen moulding.

Engine bay: Cobwebs and lots of gathering of dirt.

Wheels/Tyres: Still not sure if I'm going to put the OEM Type-S wheels back on or I'm refurbing the wheels to OEM silver colour. But there is some minor kerbing on the lip of the wheels. Some surface rust on the brake discs too.

Image

Image

Interior: My interior is always been mint but the only thing I need to clean is some minor mould that grew near the door card on the driver side. Seat belt has some white spots too. And I recently acquired some red mats from Mills but they need some clean.

Final picture of the front end of my S. (yes my number plate is a little bit bent)

List of things to do before I get the car on road:-
General Maintenance:
- New Wipers - Drive side 21" - passenger side 19" - rear 13" (already bought) (got from eBay - Bosch Superplus ~£15)
- Rocker Cover refurb in OEM wrinkle red with new gaskets and spark plug seals
- Oil/Filter change - 10w40 and Hamp oil filter (already bought)
- New Spark plugs (already bought) (eBay - £20)
- Panel air filter - Clean K&N filter or get OEM replacement
- Rear JDM plate
- Rear Spoiler - reinstall with gasket in-between the spoiler and the boot lid (have to make it from foam pad material)
- Bulb blown out in the speedo cluster (see if there is an OEM upgrade to LED bulbs)
- Mount Sat-nav unit box on to the back seat with screws or velcro
- Empty boot of all the JDM stuff only keeping things which are required
- Put the polystyrene space saver bit in the space saver with all the tools
- New Honda Battery (Cox motor sports - Honda OEM battery - £59.99)
- Fit Honda Access Muffler

Body/Exterior work:-
- Refurb alloy wheels with brighter colour or white
- Fit the wheels with 5mm spacers (already bought)
- Check tyres and put tyre shine
- CF bonnet respray with black OEM colour
- Respray bonnet spoiler to OEM colour and add to bonnet
- Add bonnet pins
- Window visors/deflectors - install

And after all these things, I just need to get the polisher out and give it a good clean/polish/wax. I am not sure if I will attempt to give the engine a wash/clean as I'm scared about getting water in the wires so that will be at the end of the things to do list.

Fixing the water leak.

Every time it rained there would be a pool of water collected inside the boot lid and would fall out in the boot every time I opened it. I knew it was coming from the spoiler. I had a JDM High rise spoiler on the car from factory and when I replaced it with the S-Spec (Mid-wing) I didn't put the gasket that goes between the spoiler and boot lid. So when ever it rained the water got in.

Not sure if you can see it in the picture below, but there's always been a small gap.

Image

Took off the spoiler.

Image

To stop the water getting in, I put a double sided foam tape. It was thick around 2mm and it was water resistant. Basically the same type of material that the gasket was made off. Honda wanted £20 each for both sides of the spoiler so I used the tape which cost £2.49. Also the holes were a bit rusty so put some rust remedy there and cleaned it all and then put the tape around the holes.

Image

Spoiler back on. It started raining straight after I put the spoiler on but that gave a ideal opportunity to see if the water leak was stopped. It rained for 20 mins and there was no leaks at all. Result.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New Boot lid tray and carpet.

I got a spare boot lid wood tray and carpet from a fellow Prelude owner which was in a near mint looking condition to the one I had in the Type-S. The original one was badly ripped and had a chunk missing from the wood tray.

Picture of the old wood tray, chunk missing on the bottom side.

Image

Realised later that the ATTS ECU unit is also in the boot and the normal un-ATTS car's don't have a cut out for that.

Image

So made cut outs for the ATTS ECU unit (using the old ones as templates) and this is the result. Also got some brand new plastic bolts/screws that hold the carpet to the wood tray piece. All ready to put back in the car.

Image

Boot. All hoovered and cleaned. The drops of water is just over spray from the WD40 that I used on the locks and hinges to keep it lubricated. Also got the tool holder thing in the spare tire too.

Image

Put new clips to hold the trim pieces as well.

Image

All done, leak free and newish looking.

Image

Next on the list is a good clean..

Hoping to have the car back on road by in May before 28th..

Nitin when I first came across your posts on PUK you could not even change a windscreen wiper. You are impressing me now!

Fact of the day - Its the yaw sensor unit. ATTS ecu is in the footwell next to the engine ecu.

Car just needs a dam good detail.
