Removed the sunroof in preparation for the monroof install, and decided to connect moonroof up to controls to confirm it works. It did... barely... and required me helping it along with my hands to open and close.... great

Swapped motors with the motor from the 4G sunroof, and even worse (guess 5G motor is a little stronger). Guess I know why I got it so cheap....

Really pissed off now

Anyways, as I also purchased a 4G sunroof (plus assembly, minus motor) with a panel with much less rust on it, I decided to put that one back instead, I will treat the rust on this panel and then respray it.

Not sure what the issue is with the 5G moonroof, but I assume it's to do with the mechanism, and maybe needs a good greasing. I saw that was a lot of rust on the moonroof mounting brackets. Dunno if that would affect operation of the moonroof. As it's off the car, I'll look into maybe taking it apart and seeing if it's serviceable.

Anyone got any suggestions on where to start to get the moonroof sorted? Also, what grease should I use ?

I've used ordinary automotive white spray grease on my sunroof. A good greasing is probably all it needs.

Pics of the rusty brackets?

I went and did some work on the rust on the replacement 4G sunroof, and the Plastidip spraying didn't go so well. I would've been better if I'd taken the panel off the car first. I therefore decided to do the moonroof panel swap (into the existing 4G frame) and that's worked out pretty well. I can now repair and spray the 4G panel at my leisure and put it back if I want.

It sits a little raised (with no shims), but I'm not fussed about that.

Comes with correct brackets for Prelude. The bonnet DOES sit a little high on the one side, but not a big isue for me.
