Fitv adjustment?
Post by Bludge » Thu Mar 24, 2016 11:08 am
I have just taken apart and cleaned my fitv in the hopes it would cure my bouncing idle. it hasnt.
I know if you screw it in one way it will raise the idle and the other way will lower it, but would that affect the bouncing idle problem i have?

Take your intake off while the is running and block the two holes one at a time and see what happens, like this:

If you block the bottom hole and revs drop then the FITV is at fault. If you block the top (IACV) hole and nothing happens you have a vacuum leak somewhere. When blocking the top hole the engine should almost stall.

I wouldn't adjust that screw just yet, until you have checked everything else first. Also when turning that screw you need to unplug the IACV to set base idle correctly. If you have an underlying problem like a vacuum leak adjusting the idle screw will not help.Bludge wrote:I know if you screw it in one way it will raise the idle and the other way will lower it, but would that affect the bouncing idle problem i have?

once u have screwed it right in u will need to turn it back 2-3 turns see if that works, that's what I was told to do if not then I still have that one for saleBludge wrote:When i put it back together after cleaning it i screwed it in as far as it would go. still bouncing the idle.

How's the gasket?
There's a chance it's beyond repair, although you can potentially pack it out the seal properly. I did this on a 3rd gen one as it wasn't sealing properly, but I've never taken a 4th gen one apart to know if it's similar.

Its 3 rubber o-rings and they look in pretty good condition to be honest.NafemanNathan wrote:How's the gasket?
