It's a bit like a guy I messaged recently on ebay about a car that was advertised.
DPF, rear trailing arm bearings, rear pads/discs (and if they had any pitting/uneven wear), handbrake cables, autobox fluid/filter and if all the heater flaps worked correctly.
They're all either standard service stuff you'd expect after a car having done that many miles, or the relevant problem areas on the car I was considering... Hardly difficult to look in the paperwork!
His reply?

Fuckwit.
It hasn't sold yet. I'm tempted to bid, make sure I win and then refuse to pay up, just to body lemonade him off!
(Or alternatively turn up, find things wrong with the car, work out just much % service history it actually has and when it's less than 99%, refuse to buy because it's not as stated in the add
)
EDIT: I replied to him again saying as much (common faults or things that should have been done by 170k, not expecting a new car just want to know what to factor for repairs if not done etc.) No response, but a few days later I see he's uploaded photo's of the info and said happy to answer questions!
It's done 170k and considering it has "99% service history" I asked him if he could look at the history and tell me if/when the following had been done;99% HISTORY,PLENTY OF STAMPS IN BOOK, QUITE A FEW RECIEPTS FOR WORK DONE, I HAVE WALLET WITH SERVICE BOOK,MANUALS ETC,
DPF, rear trailing arm bearings, rear pads/discs (and if they had any pitting/uneven wear), handbrake cables, autobox fluid/filter and if all the heater flaps worked correctly.

Maybe the car has only had a couple of services, but he has 99% of the paperwork from the few services that it has had
Is he a dealer out of interest? Pretty shitty response if that's supposedly his livelihood.

No he's a private seller.
I'd expect less from a dealer tbh - I can't see them interested in spending time looking at things like that if they have lots of cars to shift?

I guess it depends on the dealer, if it's a case of stack 'em high sell 'em cheap then yeah you're not going to get much. Anyone working to a decent margin should make an effort though imo... If you've got any forward thinking, you'd know that your customer will eventually need/want to buy another car, and so if they had a decent experience with you there's a chance they'll come back.
Private sellers I'd always expect the worst, as at the end of the day it's caveat emptor and so most people just play stupid knowing there's no come back... I was speaking to somebody about a car he had for sale recently, and even though we were standing by it he kind of seemed bewildered by the simplest questions. He managed to explain that it was a car, that it starts, that he likes it and thinks it's a really good car, and that was about it
To be fair it might not have been an act, poor chap could have just been thick as two short planks stuck together with stupid glue.
