Turns out we're not finished yet, all the metal has been reshaped but my rear bumper can't be repaired so I've got to source one before it can go back for paint

I've been meaning to post an update since the weekend as I did a little bit of maintenance to this BB4 whilst I had the time spare.

I can't remember if I posted elsewhere, but this car has had a bouncing idle ever since I laid it up off the road for a bit. I was putting up with it as it didn't affect the driveability of the car, however it was a little bit annoying when sitting in traffic. For reference the symptoms I had were:

• Fast idle when cold was fine.
• When coolant got up to temp idle started surging from about 500rpm to 1500rpm repeatedly.
• Covering the FITV holes in the throttle body did not stop the bouncing idle.
• Removing the plug from the IACV did stop the bouncing idle.

I removed the IACV a few weeks back and cleaned it, to be fair it wasn't dirty and so unsurprisingly this didn't resolve the issue.

This weekend I bled the coolant system properly, it took a fair while and made a mess but it seems to have sorted my problem out

Only problem now is that my idle is a bit high when the car is up to temp. It sits at about 1000-1100rpm. I'll check for vacuum leaks this weekend hopefully, however if I don't find any I guess I'll just have to adjust the idle manually, unless there is anything which I should check before that?

In terms of bodywork, hopefully I'll pick up a bumper this weekend from @wurlycorner so I can get the car in for getting its arse painted.

If I'm feeling really productive I will try and fit my JDM electrically adjusting driver's seat. The manual seat in my lude is so broken that it constantly creaks whilst I'm sitting in it

If I'm feeling incredibly productive, I will change the oil & filter, and might even paint up a rocker cover to go on it

you will like the electric drivers seat -got this on my BB1- its much easier to adjust on the move

fyi ive seen idle issue traced to a pin hole in the hose that goes from the fitv to the thermostat housing - seen it on three different 4th gens including my BB4 - it only shows up under pressure - i rekon this could be the same issue you are having - very difficult to spot this as the coolant dries up almost instantly - ideally get someone to sit in the car and rev the engine whilst you fiddle with the hose and check it for leaks:)
