Broken Bolt Which Attaches Rotor Cap to Dizzy
Post by prelude_h22 » Mon Mar 07, 2016 8:01 pm
Just a quick question, one of the bolts heads which holds the dizzy cap on sheared off last weekend whilst doing some general maintenance. Needless to say i was quite annoyed.
The cap is still held securely by the other two bolts so the car can still be used if required.
Is the broken bolt easy to drill out with a standard drill?
Would it need re tapping?
Dont really want to buy a new dizzy -lol
Cheers guys

I see what you mean, the bolts are aluminium so quite soft. Drilling out should be possible?
I would assume i would need to retap?

Ah ryt ok fair enough I'm pretty sure it would be quite easy to drill outprelude_h22 wrote:Unfortunately when the bolt sheared it seemed that the rest of the bolt sheared inside the thread, so wont be reachable or grip able with a set of clamps.

Or mark the distributor position, unbolt and remove it from the engine so you can work on it on the bench - that will be the safest option imo.prelude_h22 wrote:LOL. i mean the drill body on its sideits only the bit that has to go in there
