F20a4 Turbo or H22 swap?

F20a4 Turbo or H22 swap?
Post by lamnea » Sun Feb 07, 2016 2:49 pm
Decisions have been made and I'm looking to go turbo. Garage is half ready to squeeze the car amoung the mounds of crap.
So first things first I did a compression test , results Showed around 150psi across the board dry , +-no more than 6psi . However the wet results were far higher up to 180psi.
Looking for what the f20a4 results should be when healthy and new if anyone has them , seem tricky to find so far

The f20a4 can handle more boost than a h22a. Standard iron sleeves in the f20a4 don't eat piston rings.
The frm liners in the h22 ate even stronger however eat ceramic piston rings and are not ideal.
You could boost the f20a4 to 10psi easily imo. Get to 250bhp and loads of nice torque.

Allot of people are telling me the same from different perspectives, F20 turbo seems much easier to me than a h22 swap.
So far im going with,
h23 injectors 235cc is this the same as the f20 injectors? h22a1 are 330cc much bigger, would they work?
Megasquirt management (emailed my local company for advice here)
T3 Turbo (cheap)
Biggest issue im having is finding a suitable turbo manifold in this country. Im think im going to import one from ebay.com, but im worried about IRC fines. Anyone bought big things from ebay.com, or know of anyone selling a t3 manifold in this country with equal ports

you dont need a megasquirt you could go with a chipped p28 or p30 oh and buying stuff from ebay.com you need to add at least 30% for vat and duty you might get away without paying it if it slips through but count it in anyway.

Megasquirt is a porn category. Not the best for tuning a turbo with. Get a p28 with crome.
in the for sale section.

H swap, cheaper more reliable, fairly straight forward.
F20 boosted, different, not as reliable and not as cheap to do.
