As I have previously stated I am using a different engine for 2016. It is the H22a from the S-SPEC. It was covered, covered!, in oil so the only solution was to begin to break the engine down in order to clean it and give it a quick inspection.
Vanzep gave me a hand to get the loom off and separate the intake manifold.
We took off the VTEC solenoid and there was some material in the filter so we decided to take a closer look for any evidence of the insides eating itself. The head was clean, no gunk, and the cam lobes looked very nice and showed very little wear (which surprised me). With the sump off there was nothing that caused us any concern.
Starting the cleaning
The next step is standing and painting, then changing most of the oil seals and fitting a new timing belt etc...
I need to gather all the bits I need to build the engine back up. Today I paid for a set of 4G injectors, Synrotech carbon syncro kit, timing belt, balance belt, cam timing tool kit, H23 manual tensioner kit, sump gasket, cam end seal, oil cooler o-ring, Hondata intake manifold gasket, EGR blanking kit, Hondabond, VHT silver and a load of sandpaper
