Anyone know anything about RC cars?
Banter goes here, and doesn't have to be Lude related

4WD will allow better drifting - with only rear wheel drive, it just spins too easily. With all 4 wheels spinning, you can control it much better.
I got some bits for my old car (Traxxas 4-Tec electric) a few years ago to turn it into a drifter, and used it a little bit! (By "bits", I mean a new set of batteries, a new set of wheels, and a set of drift tyres. I got the 2nd set of wheels so I could quickly swap between proper tyres and drift tyres.
A test in my kitchen:

And outside:

There's not many spares readily accessible for my Traxxas, so definitely try to get something that's popular - like the Tamiya TT01 - spares will be both easier and cheaper to get (more suppliers, more competition between sellers)

I have a hpi nitro. Tbh, it's a pain. Like James has said most of the time it's on the bench in pieces. Hard to start and even harder to keep running. Have you tried full lock drifters Facebook page?

Lol, this is all a bit more complicated than my simple farmer brain imagined. I thought the whole lot came in a kit and away you went, but looks like that isn't quite that easy.
I didn't really want to go above a budget of £150 and going new looks like it will be circa £200 with a controller, battery etc as starting point with Tamiya, such as http://www.modelsport.co.uk/tamiya-skyl ... cts/388820
If i'm going to go second hand, then i'm going to wait unit afer Christmas as everyone will be in a bidding frenzy at the moment. Give it a month or two and i bet there will be some unused chrimbo RC cars up on ebay too.
However, i really like the look the of the Vaterra S15 that first caught my eye and, by the looks of things can be bought new for £130 complete with batteries, contoller etc. It also says it has universal fittings so can be upgraded with many compatible parts.
What are people's thoughts on this then? I really do know fag all about these things -

I have no sound but it looks pretty nifty on the video:

Buying up someones hobby when they cash out is an amazing way to get into it. I think waiting for the right ebay ad is a great idea.
@donald: That being the only collision betwix cars that weekend cant be a bad record considering the amount of booze downed

Well I couldn't wait, I did a last second bid on this last night but got out bid http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tamiya-TT02-R ... 7675.l2557
Seller came back with a second chancer offer so I took him up at £102.
eBay Ad says its £350 of kit that is 2 months so if that is true then I'm a happy boy. I can paint up the NSX shell and then probably annoy Sam (hondahardy) to make some more personal transfers. Lol.
