Rear wiper delay / Air-con backlight

Post by simonc » Wed Dec 02, 2015 12:52 am

Mornin' all, ;)
I have a couple of questions I'd like your help with please.
1: My rear wiper doesn't have a 'delay' setting, it's either wiping or it's not, which is a bit of pain in traffic. Is there a way of fitting a 'delay' into the switch?
2: The air-con back light dims (when I say dims, more like switches itself off), when I switch on the lights. Is there a way of keeping it lit when the lights are on?
Thanks as ever gents. Si.

1. Delay? Do you mean intermittent?
2. It will always dim, unless you want to get busy with the wiring inside the instrument binnacle. The amount it dims by, should be adjustable on the rheostat (the rotating switch thing) along with the main dash lighting though?

I modified a previous car's rear wiper to give it intermittency.

If I recall, I ascertained that an early Ford Mondeo's rear wiper is intermittent, so I obtained from a scrappy the rear wiper relay from said car.

This relay has the delay circuitry inside. I.e. Power it up and it clicks on, then off, then waits about 5 secs, then does it again etc.

I just installed it in series with the car's existing power supply to the rear wiper, so the power ran the relay, which itself then switched the power to the wiper.

Worked fine.

Not sure if I am 100% right but the rear wiper is either on or off. There is no delay. :?
