Changing cambelt Difficulty
Post by pagjake » Wed Nov 18, 2015 11:23 am
Just wondering if anyone like me with a fair amount, but not great amount of hand on experience has changed their cambelt at home and how hard they found it, and did you need locking pins? Only asking because it turns out my local garage havent even ordered a belt in yet, or fitted the new caliper and brake hose that theyve had ready to fit for over a month and I now have the bluest of honda blues!!!
On a second note does anyone know the code for the belt I need after removing the AC?

Gates belt code for -AC is 6PK913
ive done the cambelt on a lude once before, and im currently doing Will's 4g one, not that hard to yourself, just a bit of a ball-ache with the limited room and you need certain tools to help you through. any questions, fire away!
you can lock the camshafts using two drill bits in the cams, through the camshaft covers

I've done my belt myself about 4 times now, a few special tools are required; you will need the crank pulley locking tool, a balance belt alignment pin and also maybe a replacement tensioner (which comes supplied with a fitting device).
It's a 3-5 hour job depending on experience.

To get to the timing belt you have to remove the timing belt cover which requires the crank pulley to be removed. Taking off the crank pulley is one of the hardest things to do
