So I csn have 6" 7" 8" display and it doesn't matter

Screen size should be irrelevant. DIN is the standard determining outside dimensions (and fixing positions/type/location etc.)

Single DIN head unit;

Single DIN head unit in single DIN slot;

Single DIN head unit in double DIN slot (pocket below fills up the second DIN slot);

Double DIN head unit;

Double DIN head unit in double DIN slot;

etc.

thanks for your help appreciate it. looking for a unit with sat navigation and possibly DAB radio. any ones you or anyone else can recommend ?

Mine is is a double din a d I had to butcher my surround to make it fit

That wood trim stuff is surprisingly hard to cut haha... got a spare from the rolled one so that's why I didn't care too much, but wouldn't fit right otherwise... pic to follow

That was pre butcher.
Sat out over the top of the wood trim and really really annoyed me.

That's because it isn't a double DIN unit. It's a single DIN with an oversize flip out display that doesn't conform to any standard...

I've an Eonon one in my Lude, its proper double-DIN, fits and works fine.

Has satnav, DAB, Bluetooth, aux uns, etc etc.
