ABS fault code 53 Prelude 5th gen

Post by vtijon » Tue Aug 18, 2015 6:42 pm

I’ve had an intermittent fault with my ABS system and finally cured the issue.
The ABS light would come on whilst driving and sometimes clear at start-up and sometimes at 20mph.
The fault code is 53 pump motor stuck on.
I checked the pump relay which was ok, cleaned the pump connector and earth connection bolt and changed the ECU (from a breakers car) however the fault was still there.
I then bought a used pump/modulator which came from a 1998 Integra Type R DC02 and measured the resistance across the motor terminals which was 0.5 ohms. My own unit measured higher (200 to 300 ohms). After testing the motor ran ok and testing the solenoids the unit was fitted to my car at the garage and the fault has gone.

If you get the same fault it would be a good idea to have a look at the pump motor resistance first if the fault is the same as mine.

The pump modulator part number is Nissin ABS NK1 (this is marked on the unit as well as a serial number)
Lings Honda quote part number PFKL703582 (non VTI Preludes have the same part number) Amayama quote part number 57110-S30-003 (neither of these numbers are on the unit)
I ended up with a pump from an Integra type R as they also use a Nissin ABS NK1
