Spoke to the council, because they had written to my mate Phil saying they hold him responsible for recovery of costs for the arnco that his Disco hit.

Some annoying points here...
1. Phil was not the driver, I was and they know that 'cause they have the police report saying so, along with my contact details (so why did they write to Phil?)
2. The accident was MAY last year, why the hell has it taken 15 months?
3. I asked them how much they were looking to recover and they said they didn't know, because they don't know what repairs were carried out, don't have the costs and will now have to request them from their contractor.

:? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :?

If they haven't seen any info on the repair, then they don't actually know that there were any costs incurred, so how can you send a letter to someone saying you're looking to recover costs?
How the drokk do they not know what it cost them to repair the barrier? The barrier was repaired within about a month (so June 2014) and the contractor will have had to get approval from the Council before doing the repair and the contractor sure as jobby won't be sitting on invoicing 15 months later!!!

Ridiculous.

It doesn't even make sense from an accounting perspective - this will be recovery of costs in a separate financial year. So how the hell do they manage accruals, if they don't know what the costs are that they should be accruing?

Can't you just pass the letter onto the insurance company?

I might pass it on to insurance depending how much they want to claim, but until I know, I can't make that decision.
