Rear pad carriers are STILL bloody well going on the de-rusting That stuff was thick... Explains why the pads were so tight and the brakes were so bad.

So, slow progress there, but the new wheel nuts I only ordered at 11:23 yesterday, have arrived

They're a cheap set so don't know how long the coating will last, but they're steel so should at least be safe and will certainly smarten things up while I look around for a good deal on the ones I really want

Yes, if only.

Be careful about leaving them too long in the fluid, the metal (particularly cast) will get eaten away as well as the rust and you can loose the tolerance on the bolt holes, etc.
