I wonder what would happen if I looped the PAS lines and somehow restricted the flow, maybe something like a brake bias valve and dial in the amount of constant assistance I want

Shall I have a look at the VSS setup and try to get a pic for you? It honestly sounds suspiciously like what I have, I just can't remember the reasoning behind it! Sorry!

No probs. Thanks anyway. Yeah it is tucked away under the intake etc...

@bennyboy I take it your one looks like this? Ie with no PAS lines on it? Taken from the 5th gen service manual.

Is removing PAS entirely not an option?

Otherwise why not put an inline tap on each pipe as close to the VSS as possible to minimize spillage?

I like my power steering.

I am going to read up about it before doing anything further. I wonder what would happen if you blocked the PAS feed to the VSS rather than reducing its flow

it would assume you do not have the engine running therefore no assistance

I love the way everyone has made new suggestions that are the same as indigo's original one

The speed sensor is gearbox driven merc, not engine speed driven. When the engine is not running you have no assistance, because the power steering pump isn't running, not because of the vss
