Yeah it is the 4th gen one. You cant adjust timing on 5th genshoppi05 wrote:Yes i have the P13 ECU JDM i believe and its a 1992 so this is the 4th gen i need to print for him?

Fingers crossed it is ignition timing, it sounds like it. If the timing is too retarded the spark plug fires while the exhaust valve is open, hence all the pops, bangs and flames. Also power may be massively down but you may not notice that.

Ok so it is not fixed he believes it could be down to a faulty dizzy or ecu
here's why:
the ignition timing is out, manifold pressure is ok which suggests it is not the cambelt and no codes indicated this also.
so with the computer hooked up the timing was advanced at 30 once warm and reved this dropped to 15 with no movement of the dizzy so we decided to take the car for a drive with the pc connected and repeating his invoice here in front of me 'on acceleration of engine timing found to drop to 0 or -4 at same time as engine lurched, not sure what that last word is as his handwriting is not good??? basically the timing was advancing ad retarding incorrectly and even going to a minus under load???
he checked all sorts and each point could only suggest the dizzy he remarked it was as if the entire engine loses power/ignition and then picks back up as any issue was across all 4 cylinders not once was anything found to be on one cylinder or HT lead???
so a wanted thread is going up for a new dizzy and i will try that.
only other thing is this ecu is super chipped?? but that should not move the timing like wes saw today????????? plus when i picked the engine up the dizzy cap was off and it was raining and the sheet over then engine had let water in prior???
all fun and games PM me if you have a 4th gen dizzy my engine is a jdm one if that makes a difference?

If this is an H22A, then it has a knock sensor, IIRC.
And if the problem you're seeing is that the ignition is being retarded too much under acceleration... Could that not be caused by a problem with the knock sensor circuit?

Is the sensor fitted?
Is it fitted correctly?
Is it damaged?
Is it wired in correctly?
Is the wiring damaged?
etc.

Would the knock sensors of shown as faulty on the scan tool today? The technician did not mention it? And would the knock sensor cause alterations on the fly as we were seeing???
Either way something else to double check at the weekend thanks
How do u check a knock sensor?
