Sounds like valve clearances Nick. It's amazing how often I've heard of them coming loose again after adjusting. I've had it myself.

It will be something like your exhaust manifold again  TBH I wouldn't worry just yet.

Ok so dropped it off - guy said it could possibly be disti - which was coincidence since i had noticed it looked a bit oily and gunked up and had taken my spare with me along with some oil and hondabond just in case. Rattle was audible from start up and louder just when it went to base idle and then disappeared so kind of intermitent
Valve clearances will be checked as a precaution tomorrow morning from cold. :)

Go the car back
Valve clearances and timing rechecked and found to be ok. :)
New disit fitted - no throttle response, backfiring and cutting out  sounded like timing was way out but couldnt be as timing and clearances checked so old disti fitted - fired up ok - running fine :) :)
New disit is duff. but problem not thought to be disti related.
Was advised it could be sticking lma's :?
Hopefully they will free up/not stick again and I have to keep an eye on it and see how it runs over the next week or so.
No charge for the work carried out today :)

It was changed last week when the cams were put in ;)
but it has been nearly i year since a full oil change was done - in the meantime i have been topping it up as it was chowing through the oil at a rate of about 1litre per 1000 miles :|
