I have had this happen to me before and it was the driveshafts/inner CV.
This is what im thinking, im reasonably sure its the inner cv on the drivers side shaft.

The noise is also pretty consistant when its happening, like if i stay at 15mph its knocking away, no different with weight transfer or bumps.

But its also intermittant, went out for a short drive yesterday and there was no noise. :?

Just a little tip, if you take the shafts out of the cups at the gearbox end, make sure you put the stupid bearings in the correct way round - On my first attempt I got it wrong and crunched a whole set :(

Yup been there and done that although we realised our mistake quickly. The spider bearings are a proper pain in the ass as they wont go in unless the shaft is facing the cup straight on. I prefer to remove the cup as it is easier to get the bearings in with the cup removed.

^^ that would have been good to know. Unfortunately, as it was my first attempt (at my local Curbside Motors) it was a bit of trial and error.. more error than anything though

Sound advice.
Obviously don't do it on a busy roundabout, that would just be silly :? unless your name is Ken Block

If it's CV/driveshaft you should notice it much more on the motorway - in 5th accelerate hard and it should knock quite a bit, throttle back and it should disappear. Had this about 4 times with different shafts!

I had a knock last year and it turned out one of the bolts in my lower control arm had come loose o.o could have been some work the previous owner did and the bolts weren't tightened up properly. Anyway initially I thought it was my driveshafts and hunted around for a pair. I'd suggest using Rock Auto as it was the only place which seemed to sell them without the massive cost of the oem part.

Take the wheel off and have a good mosey around and hopefully that provides more clarity for you

On this I fixed my knocking noise just before japfest and as G-lude said above it turned out to be loose bolt for the front lower arm!

It wasn't loose as in finger tight but a just not clamping the bush as tight as it should, no more knocking now, do both sides as the other wasn't that tight either

IME, the bolts for the lower arms are usually seized absolutely solid by now!
