newkid had said in his post that i could have connected to the IR security plug but ive always had IR and was saying that the relay next to what i think is the foglight connector is the IR one - so unless there is another lplug hidden away then what im plugged into must be the correct fog light one. I will go double/triple check it today.
The pins on the 5th gen fog light switch look to be same as 4th gen one - will have a look at the wires on the white 6 pin connector in the centre console to see how they match up - honda might have switched one of them round

So can you see the other plug that looks identical to what you should be plugging into?

yes its a 4 pin brown connector and it has a relay in there already so presume its the IR one they refer to as the security system connector as i have nothing else like tcs ,cc or abs or 4ws or sunroof etc that would require a relay

will double check this avo

Cool, just wanted to check. So so far it sounds like the relay and sub harness are in the correct place.

4g IR central locking doesn't have any extra relay/s as far as I have been able to find.

The IR 'add on' part in the handle, feeds directly into the existing central locking circuit, inside the drivers door.
The only difference is that the drivers door lock module (i.e. the part of the lock that's inside the door) is different - on an IR fitted lude, the drivers door lock module has an integral solenoid (same as on the passenger side) which is activated by the IR receiver, whereas on a non-IR fitted lude, the drivers door lock is a straight mechanical lock.

On both IR and non-IR, the drivers door lock has a switch that picks up when the drivers door lock has been operated, which sends a signal to the passenger side to lock/unlock.

That's what I sussed from stripping the BA8 (and various IR and non IR fitted doors on BB1's) anyway...
TBH, I've struggled to find out where on earth there is any 'coding' in the IR system on a 4g. There is no electronics module, only the tiny PCB on the back of the door handle, which can only really be a receiver and transistor. I have a feeling there's a very strong possibility that one 4g IR key may open many/any ludes???

(no idea if that post is making any sense to anyone, btw! my brain is completely frazzled at the end of this week, but at least I still know what I mean!!!

after some thought i agree the IR thing might be an irrelvance as when i checked what i thought was it was i found it was a 4 pin relay plugged directly into the centre 4 pin white plastic connector - there is a row of three of them attached to fuse box just above the big black light flasher/relay thing

ive had another look and can only find one brown 4 pin connector off the loom it had blue tape round it

- The manual says there is two - 1 is the fog and the other is a connector for the security system - so this might be an OEM immobiliser or alarm and is something i dont have - if there is another connector i cant locate then it must be trapped behind some bodywork or the fusebox itself

I cant see it in there nor feel it

Hey Nick, I just so happened to stumble on a second spare foglight switch today. I knew where the 1st was, as I'll be using it in the 5th gen eventually. Anyway I now have one from a 4th gen and one from a 5th gen.

4th gen, black end connector...
Date Stamp: 93.9.06. Part Number: 2 SS0 M14738 HD19. Connector End Number: 1 SS0 M14740.

5th gen, blue end connector...
Date Stamp: 98.10.11. Part Number: 1 SS0 M14738 HD19. Connector End Number: 2 SS0 M14740.

I've not tested them, but they look to be identical. Only obvious difference other than the black/blue connectors are the foglight image on the switch itself. I'm not sure what relevance the "1"s and "2"s have (Possibly just a batch number).

Either way, I'd say unless you have a dud, your switch isn't the problem.

Just wondering can someone tell me where exactly can be found the 4 pin brown connector with the wiring color
Red/Yellow - Red/Yellow - Red/Green - Blue/Red

Because the only one that i was able to find near to the fusebox was the security sistem 4 pin connector

ive posted in your other thread - im sure the connector we are both looking for is blue taped to the top of the loom thats up under the steering wheel - this is why we have to remove the ducting.

Cheers Nafe thats good info - it looks like the only difference between 4th and 5th gen switch is the orientation of the fog decal

Im sure ive just not found the right connector....still looking
