Lowering springs
Lowering springs
Hi, I lowered my golf on Friday night using 40mm springs, few people have said it doesn't look that low, so I emailed the company who have asked stupid questions anyway they ask what shocks am using so I said standard ones, they then said that's why it's not lowered. Is this right?

damon, sometimes when you lower a car and the new lowering springs are a 40mm drop, that is not taking into account that the existing springs may have sagged over time, so you end up with less than 40mm drop compared to what you had before. Although it is probably 40mm lower than when the standard springs were new.

Ideally when you replace the springs for shorter ones, you should replace the dampers for shortened, uprated units.. that said, a shorter spring should lower the height of your car on standard shocks - unless the spring rate is too high or the springs are incorrect.. I can't imagine that the dampers are so strong that they eliminate the need for springs!
Did you compare the unsprung spring length of the new ones with the old ones?
EDIT* ^^ plus what Craig said!

It might also depend on if your Golf is a GTI and you've fitted non GTI springs because the GTI is lower to start with, just a thought, but they also will settle a little more once they've been fitted a little while
I'd say its looks similar to my old mk4 GTI with a Weitec kit fitted
