Recal on HONDA PRELUDE 1996-1998

Post by Preludehonda1997 » Fri May 15, 2015 2:32 pm

Hi guys,

I have a 1997 2.0i Auto Prelude, bought August 2013 from original owner with 44,600 on the clock. Car runs great and so far I'm happy but during a chance conversation with a Lude owner at our local flea market he mentioned a recall in 1997 as to SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER BALL JOINT + Air Bag fiasco? Any of you guys know about this? How would I find out if the work needed has been done (original owner sadly passed away now). I tried the Honda UK site but not much info on that.

I realize it's a bit late but well, the thought of having the ball joint drop off or my face smashed in by an over zealous airbag is a little disconcerting :o

Thanks a bunch

HelenT

Just call your local Honda garage and ask them to check if there are any outstanding recalls.

Hi guys, thanks for the info and help, tried the http://www.honda.co.uk/cars/owners/you- ... d-recalls/ but the Vin number I enter comes up invalid? Looks like I'll be phoning our local Honda garage as per Vtecmec's suggestion. I really like the car though prefer my previous Prelude, a niffty 1994 Honda Prelude 2.2 vtec in marine green/blue (depending on the light) because it had such a fantastic turning circle, this one needs Wembley stadium 2 do a 180! Don't suppose there's a mod/fix out there that won't cost an arm and a leg? I'm no mechanic so 'Be gentle with me :o

Thanks

Is yours an import? Honda don't normally recognise those VIN's. :x

If it's a 2L it will be UK.

On UK 5th gens only the 2.2 VTEC Preludes have four wheel steering, your 2L wont. There isn't anything you can do other than sell it and get a 2.2 VTEC.

Hi Guys, no grey import, phoned local Honda garage and they checked it out through the reg number, guy said 'no outstanding recalls on that number.' so I guess all is ok. Offered me an annual service for £175.00 does that sound good to you? Yep, looks like I'll either have to find a bigger parking space, move, or buy another 2.2vetec, missed a good one just before I bought this one. Are the engines the same? This one don't seem as nippy? Any tweeks out there that are easy to achieve for us non techy types

Thanks guys.
