D3 is auto but with only 3 ratio's D4 uses 4 ratio's sport button holds the revs to the line before changing up

D3 is without overdrive, D4 is with.

D3 has more torque and is better for low speed town driving, D4 if your going near dual carrageways and motorways. I've always just left it in D4.

Both modes will max the revs if it's floored.

Yep, so no difference in acceleration, just less top speed and drink a lot more fuel (because it won't use 4th). So pointless using D3.

Pretty much, though it's good for steep hilly terrain, and snow conditions where you want a bit of engine braking.

In my Isuzu apparently you're supposed to turn off overdrive in town as it prevents the overdrive solenoid becoming seized in place and also reduces the amount of gear changes and as a result gearbox wear (or something along those line). I only found that out a couple of months ago, but it has definitely made town driving a lot better since making a habit of switching off overdrive once I leave the main roads.

You also get more of an engine braking effect with the overdrive switched off.

That said the diesel troopers use Toyota boxes which could be a completely different kettle of fish to the Honda boxes...

I fitted a Type S intake to the car today, no probs, took all of 10 minutes.

I'd read that it can sit too high and prevent the bonnet closing, but not here; mind you I did use the original lower half of the filter box.

On my first and only test run, to the shop, I got the impression that the midrange power was a littler better, and smoother delivery.

I've a question, what's the collecteed thoughts, merits, disadvantages of removing the resonator? Is there any danger of sucking up moisture if driving in very wet conditions?

I removed my resonator and fitted the Type-S intake, makes the car whistle on hard acceleration..

The risk is increased but I don't think it is a hazard. My 4th gens Apexi filter is almost on the floor and I dont have a problem with water.

By removing the resonator you will most likely loose a little low end torque but you may pick up a little higher RPM performance. If your resonator does not work (many have seized up actuators) then deffo remove it.

Put a K&N flat panel filter in there if you haven't already ;)

Ta, planning to! I don't want to lose any low end, so maybe I'll leave it alone.

That funny U bend attachment on the original intake is intriguing, what's that for?
