It was an mk3 Astra SRi 1992 2.0 8v.. some say its a safe engine, some don't. Either way it is now 8 days away from it's MOT and the arse is so rusty it's almost fallen off, so it's going to be squashed today.
I managed to pick up this little Civic for £199

D16Z6 sohc VTEC, 70k, lots of history almost immaculate inside, Nun owned (hahaha) Only 3 months MOT though
...oh, and it's an AUTO!

I actually gave £200 but I found £1 under the back seat..
Next question - does anyone have experience of these auto boxes? It goes P-R-N-D4-D3-2-1. The way I understand it is I use D4 for normal driving and D3 if I want to accelerate harder with VTEC - because D3 doesn't allow overdrive to engage..? Then I'd use 2 and 1 for ice/steep inclines/towing.. is this even remotely correct?

D4 for pretty much everything man. Gentle acceleration will stay in gear, shoving the pedal to the floor will drop a gear for overtaking. Leaving a junction with gentle accel will likely result in a 2nd gear takeoff, putting the boot in gets you first gear.
In all the years I owned a Honda auto I pretty much just used D4, Reverse and Park

Was looking for a genuine Honda guide, but this is explanatory enough
