Accord type r ball joints the same as 4th gen prelude?

Post by JEBB4 » Fri May 08, 2015 11:36 pm

I have brand new upper and lower ball joints for an accord type R (not sure what the chassis code is but it's the most common one  ) and I think mine are knocking so I just wondered if they are the same.. They look pretty similar but I'm not sure..
If anyone can confirm they are the same or different would be great help before I strip to find there different.. :?

Any info greatly appreciated :D

Easiest way to tell is to look up the part numbers on lings (delete the _pfk from the web address to see the genuine part numbers)

Measure them, lowers are 43mm in diameter front and back on the 4th gen. Fronts fit rear and visa versa man.

Personally I didn't remove my uppers I bought the whole unit, because the steel is thin and I didn't want to misshape it trying to replace the balljoint, the bottoms can be got seperate, well front ones can, my autofactors couldn't get the rear lowers but the fronts are 100% the same as the rear, I just fitted mine 2 days ago. 43mm though, so make sure there 43mm.

Oh and if you don't have a press your in for a fight, the whole hub assembly needs to be taking of the car, then you can hammer out the joint with a lump hammer after about 100 strikes it will come out lol,
Putting back in I used a block of wood and a lump hammer,

Ahh 43mm is the size of the lowers I will mesure the accord ones I have..

Yeah I've done them before on an accord and civic, the upper arms are surprisingly strong and they come out much easier than the lowers but yeah just take em off the car put em in the vice and get busy with a socket and hammer lol
Also heating helps if they are tight..

That would definitely cause a problem with my suggestion for comparing the part numbers :D

Upper ball joints are same as 6th gen civic, lower ones as Legend.
