inner cv joint replacement

Post by Bludge » Fri Apr 17, 2015 6:13 pm

Got an inner cv joint to replace, i have read the manual and it looks pretty straightforward apart from two things.

1. Is releasing the clip with a screwdriver to release the shaft as easy as it makes out in the manual?

and

2. the manual mentions marking the splines and spider before removal to make sure you put them back on right, as im fitting a new joint i cant mark it, so how do i make sure its going on the right way?

Also am i likely to need a gear puller thingy to get the spider off the shaft, or is there another way of doing it that doesnt require me spending more money! lol.

1. Yes.

2. You'll be fine as you're using new bearings and a cup.

2a. It's held on with circlip, so no puller required.

Just be mindful to put the bearings on the right way around, from memory I think it is the flats on the inside.

I had a quick go at this today and failed (mainly cause i was called away and didnt have the time to continue when i got back).

Does the drive shaft just pry away from the gearbox or is there a clip holding it in? also could someone post a picture of the drain and fill bolts on the gearbox, cause i couldnt see them?

Cheers!

Have a look in the manual, it'll show everything you need.

i have read the manual, i just wanted to double check that you just pry the shaft out before i go to town on it!

And i couldnt work out where the drain and fill bolts are from the manual, its not very clear (or im not very clever) :?
