Just some info regarding brakes (Civic related)

Post by nitin_s1 » Thu Mar 26, 2015 10:03 pm

Just wanted to know if the Prelude 282mm (front) and 262mm (rear) brakes are the same as the EK9s??

I know the Prelude's have 282 front and so does the EK9, but what about the rears?

What are the thickness of each?

They don't swap. I looked into it with my civic when I was stripping the lude down. Best option is ek9 or dc2 (uk spec as jdm ones are smaller)

I think the offsets are different too.

I think the ek9 rear discs are 242mm

I am doing the 5 stud conversion on the Civic so was thinking what discs and brakes would be great for it while it's all open.

May be worth double checking on civic life. But I'm 95% sure it's a no-go. Altho I was looking at doing the conversion with lude hubs. Iirc the lude hubs on the front have a different spline count to the civic ones.

I decided it was easier to stay 4 stud and use the ek9 front end keeping the drums on the back. I may go to discs on the rear at some point, depending how long I keep the car.

How are u finding the civic anyhow?

I did ask Civiclife but no reply. :? That's why I am on here asking for help.

Civic is good but now it's failed MOT on few things. Basically all the brakes and tyres. I was thinking about getting new brakes and new tyres but then I already have some nice new OEM Prelude wheels with tires that I can use on this. And 5 Stud civic looks cool so that's why I'm going for the conversion.

Do you know if the OEM EK9 brake discs work fine on the OEM EK4 Callipers?? :?

I'm guessing no. Think the ek9 callipers are bigger so you'd need carriers from the ek9 too. Think the ek9 came in 5stud too, but pretty expensive. Just looked on ebay and it's £450 for a set of hubs with brakes which will probably need replacing too

Yea true. I found a lad on Civic life who is selling the same stuff for only £150. Just need to get some callipers, I wished the Prelude callipers would fit.

Owning a civic and a breaking prelude at the same time I know that pain!

Maybe I will just use the hubs to have the 5 studs but just have the OEM brakes on the car..

Might have to re-drill the EK4 discs so that they have 5 studs.

Sounds like a lot of extra work mate. You wana check the spline count on the hubs too, would suck getting 5 stud hubs for the spline count to be wrong.

Getting the drive shafts out of the hubs can be a right pita too. I couldn't get them our on mine, ended up with new hubs and drive shafts.

Good luck!
