I missed out on the P5, but have had a P4 and two P6s. The 3500 was a hoot - I'd have another one.

The P5 was a bit of a tank. Had 3 P6's. my first one only lasted 6 weeks, immediately after passing my test back in '81. Wrote it off in Bradford. Also had a 3500S, that stayed in France with my ex. lovely machine, and still quite quick by modern standards. very over-engineered as it was only originally designed for the 2l and 2.2. Terrible rust-buckets, tho'.
Urban myth has it that the Govt. car pool still has a handful of unused P5's in stock. rarely seen a P4. Even SDI's are rare these days. Then there was the 800's, less said the better. LLL, I looked up ST220's last night, wicked car and well specced,

When I had my first 2000 TC all my mates laughed, they had Escort's, but it still gave them a run for it's money on the Marchwood and Totton bypass.

The Sweeney was slightly earlier!!! We're talking early 80's not mid 70's, however, The Sweeney was still popular. The P6 was heavier than the essy's, but once she got into her stride, the higher top end came in to play. (Above 65-70!!). We used to have a drag race on our old Honda's / Yamaha's about the same period, my mates RD250 could hit 70 uphill on one drag, my old CB Honda, about 62, now you can go faster on a modern 125!! My fj 12 will cover the same distance doing about 110!! God knows what an R1 will do.

What ever speed the rider wishes, I suspect...

I think P5's are lovely, especially the coupes, and wood looks fine in them, but wood in anything much more recent, real or otherwise, is a very tacky anachronism. Fake wood has always been horrid. My 5th has it :?

Never took to the P6. Just the looks don't do it for me. William Towns wasn't it? I'd take the ungainly TR7 or the AM Lagonda (Bulldog :D ) in preference if I had to have one of his.

Wasn't he the designer? Or is my old enfeebled brain getting confused?

Come to think of it, SD1?

Edit. Not SD1. Just checked.
Edit 2. I've just wiki'd Towns. It seems the Bulldog excited me when I saw it in the flesh when I was 10, but it is actually uglier than sin. And Towns designed the DBS, so it's got to be that. And yes, I know nobody asked :?
