Koni Shocks - Nylon Washer - Ghetto Fix

Post by vanzep » Fri Mar 06, 2015 1:39 pm

@newkid has been refurbing and polybushing his koni sports shocks to go on his 5th gen and ive been doing the same with a few of the spares i have here for my 4th gen.
so there were a few questions that need answered about what washers go where etc
but there was one part that was missing from some of the shocks and in order to get parts back to the manufacturers standard or better we needed to find some of the nylon washer that sits onto of the shock tube and acts as a base/load spreader for the bump stop when it bottoms out.

so to cut a long story short i found some cheap standard nylon washers that are the exact same dimensions as the koni parts
here are the pics

So you can get them from ebay for a couple of quid for a pack of 10. All you need to do is cut a thin slot in them so that you can twist them onto the damper shaft ;)
size is M12 Nylon washer od 40mm id 12mm thk 3mm. I went for natural nylon.

Might be useful info for others looking to refurb their konis

Nice work.
Question (out of interest, 'cause I don't actually have any Koni's myself) do the originals have the slot in them?

yep the original koni washers have this split in them
you need to have this so you can twist them and push them into place - you cant slip them down from the top as there is a small knuckle in the way ;)
the last pic shows koni orignal washer at top and replacement washer on the bottom - they are exact same size even though the photo makes them look different sized :)
