re locating battery to the boot help please
Post by mr_drc » Tue Feb 24, 2015 9:18 pm
So I have decided that rather than re locate a lightweight bat in the engine bay I would like to move it the current one to the boot! How ever electronics are really not my strong point and all pointers/ help much appriciated, and I was wondering were exactly how/ were I get wire bk in to the engine bay ?
If it looks like jobby and smells like jobby it probably is jobby!

Yep.
0awg from starter to dizzy block in the engine bay.
4awg from dizzy to the fuse box replacing stock wires.
0awg fused from engine dizzy block to boot battery. Fused also in the boot. Mine goes to another dizzy block in the boot which splits to amps etc.

Think it's around 250 or 300amps. Fuse is to protect the wire not the components.

all good but seriously mate..... 0AWG? 250A???
250amps? The frikking car would be on fire and that fuse would still be fine.
How in gods name did you route 0AWG all that way without either drilling big holes or worrying about chafing? Sorry but I think thats overkill. Like serious overkill.

It's absolutely fine. It's very flexible cable and fit in a hole through the firewall under the power steering. I have blown many fuses touching metal with this cable and fuse but cant remember off the top of my head what amp they are. My amps are all getting 4awg.
It's all about headroom. Remember the battery is cranking amps to start the car through A long cable My battery is cable of 550 cranking amps and 725 on a 5 second peak burst.
I will always go with 0awg. Even my vans stock cables are 0awg.

Just comparing it to my set up its well over the odds. I cant find ANY pics though
annoying.
I'm on like 4awg but high quality battery cable not audio and an 80 amp fuse as installed by rich at PAW. I took him 5m of 0awg to do the job and he laughed at me and passed it back saying he didnt need anything like that big thanks.
Headroom maybe but you cant even see the ceiling

I placed mine in the middle of the rear axle as well. I wanted to have as even weight distribution as possible. Also I wanted to keep as much weight inside the axle plan, rather than hanging over one of the wheels. My offer of contrition as that maybe a little overkill
