I am slightly grumpy...

Back over to the barn today. The resin was hard but sticky (oo-err!) shuttering removed.
This is what it should come out like;

Nice and neat 8-)

This is what the first one that we poured came out like;

:lol:
Yes - that's after spending half an hour cleaning and tidying it up. The emergency flood stop dams (the bits of wood) are going no-where!!!

I expect a bigger hammer and a cold chisel will eventually shift them, but whatever, it's all worked and it's structurally sound, that's the main thing 8-)

So onto the wiring.
Took the feed into the control box back up. This is a much longer route and looks a little untidy, but it keeps the working area completely free/with no chance of snagging;
Image
The Isolator will be fixed to the wall on the left (there's a sliver of concrete block between the corrugated tin on the left and the right, that's exactly the right width for the switch box and will keep everything very nice and neat 8-) )

Wiring 4-core SWA neatly/properly is a right utter PITA on your own. You're fighting the damn thing all the way and cable glands are an absolute arse to get right so they grip the armour. Have to get the length of the armour left over, just exactly right. :evil:

This thing was a particular PITA to do;
Image
But we got there and it's far more robust than modern crappy commando sockets.

I was pissed off with it all by this stage so stopped taking photo's, but next thing was to wire up the extra earth I'd run (not strictly needed, because the neutral is earth and the chassis earthed via the armour all the way back, but better safe than sorry).

It had all taken a lot longer than expected and it was half ten at night, so sticking a car on the ramp was out of the window. But, all ready for the big switch on, so at least I can see it go up and down, right?

:x

THE PLUG DOESN'T FIT!!! :troll: :evil:

The housing is the same size, the thread is the same, it's the same manufacturer, same rating (15amp), same pin size and pin layout... But the pins are spaced slightly wider on this one (about 5mm).
I mean, what the actual drokk?!!!!

:evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil:

At that point, going home with the hump and drinking lots of JD entered the fray...

I didn't try plugging it in before I had it wired up, no. I held it up next to the plug already at the barn and they looked the same (the spacing difference isn't immediately obvious). Why would you? It the 'same' plug, just like buying a 3 pin plug for home! :evil: it was only when I went to put it into the socket that I could spot the difference in pin spacing :x

:shock: i hate that kinda stuff.

Its always having walked the full length of the property to get a tool and realising its the wrong size or something.

That looks cool though, even with the messy shoes :lol: So this is to finally get a chop saw to your citroens then is it?

Apparently this one is

Whereas this one is
15amp Walsall Gauge 'B' 4pin

Ah yes, that good ol' popular Walsall Gauge standard for plug pin spacing... :roll:

(nb: I don't even know if these are either of the pin layouts that I have, but it's a starter for ten!)

This sort of jobby is exactly why the EEC is a GOOD thing!!!
Standards are your friends...

EDIT: And here it is in the OEM's catalogue;
http://issuu.com/lupomarao/docs/waterti ... ange/4?e=0

What an interesting way to spend ones lunch-time...

EDIT EDIT:
:lol:
BUT according to that, they only do the 15amp 4 pin in the "Walsall B" Gauge :roll:

I wonder if one of the ones I have is one of their "Special" gauges...
:suicide:

EDIT EDIT EDIT:
And even better...
This seller states what part number their plug and sockets are (with astronomical price tags)...
http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/LD ... 2wodwUYAcA
But those part numbers aren't in the OEM's catalogue!
