282mm Calipers?

Post by G-lude » Tue Feb 17, 2015 2:56 pm

Someone help me before I generally go mad lol

So I bought some calipers from a guy with an x reg prelude, my car is a w reg.

However he is adamant he has sold me 282mm calipers...

However from what I have read its the carrier which makes them 282 and not necessarily the caliper....

Well to be blunt both parts are fairly different...

The caliper sections code is 17cl14vn and the carrier code is 31F...

Also the centre spring clip isn't present on these calipers?

Is he simply lying through his teeth or is it possible that my 2.2 has different calipers and carriers to his 2.2?

Carriers are definitely different between 260mm and 282mm brakes
No idea on the section codes between the two of them though...

All 2.2 VTEC Preludes have the same calipers and carriers. Was his car an import? You get import 2.2's that are not VTEC's and they have smaller brakes and 4 stud wheels.

Guess it must be an import? I'll ask and find out, weird that the import stuff is worse? I guess it would be a risky move down sizing my discs? I didn't know the import 5g was 4 stud..

There are two basics here:

ALL 2.2 VTEC's have 282mm brakes

ALL non-VTEC cars have the smaller brakes

There are imports that are 2.2 non-VTEC, and they have the smaller brakes. There are 2.2 VTEC imports and they have the larger brakes.

Merlin meant you get import 2.2 non-Vtecs that have smaller front brakes (Same as the 2.0l).

That makes sense guys, I'll ditch these and perhaps either paint my current calipers red with vht paint to match the rears which are powdercoated red, or source some 282 front calipers to get powdercoated!

Thanks for the quick responses, you guys defo know your stuff!

Wow. What a saga! So after leaving me rather confused the guy who sold me the calipers on eBay, after being rather rude to me already was like 'everyone else has been happy with the parts I've sold off my K reg 1994 prelude, I don't see what your problem is!'

Well you have pretty much hit the nail on the head...your item description says X reg...

Can't wait to see his reply D:

It shouldn't matter whether it's a 4th or 5th, what matters is the engine spec.

Do you have a link to the ad?

Makes a slight difference to the age of what you think you're buying though! :D
