That's the SECOND time the cam seal been done and it still leaks!
Time to take to another garage!

Remote central locking is a dream now


Need to consider how much more money to throw at Luke now - if I not keeping him that long now ....

Got a 3rd opinion for the welding...

Choice of 3:
1. Find salvage rear wings to weld in (best soln)
2. Cut out rear wings and weld (more likely soln)
3. Leave wings and just weld the holes in boot

Probably LAST update until Easter (or when weather is warmer) ...

If things go as plan,
Picking up new DAILY car this Sunday.

Luke will be SORN from Sunday.

Things to sort:
1. Not had problems since whacking the starter motor few days ago
2. Just back from a DIFFERENT garage:
- can refurb the starter motor (2day job)
- oil leak not seem from cam seals, need to investigate further
- yoyo rev between 900-1100, can look into again
3. Welding:
- bodyshop said not touching til warmer climates
- paint wing mirror casing (same colour as RED), rehung driver door = £100
- weld boot well = £100
- weld wheel arches, needs further look with bumper off
4. Front AMBER fog lights, wait for dry weather then solder in connections
5. Rear spoiler, leave light with no wire loom - but will get body shop to fit it securely
6. Rear bumper sides sagging - will get bodyshop to weld fixings to appropriate height to remove sags

Ooh noooo, an old VW! You must be a glutton for punishment

Good job on finding a VR6 though, the Corrado lump is more sought after by folks such as myself as it's a 2.9 rather than the more common Golf 2.8 lump - it's all about the extra 0.1

Reliability aside, the old VW's are still pretty cool hope it does you right for the duration you need it for just keep an eye on coolant and oil!

It was absolutely smooth slick gear change on test drive.
But after handing over cash - 20mins in heavy traffic - and it wouldn't go into gear - eeeek!

RAC came - apparent Clutch Slave Cylinder on the way out ...
Car did stall once on motorway - GASP! but maybe that was me stalling?

No major rust - YAY!
Engine sounds fine with a quiet ROAR

But,
Would need £1000-£1500 for major overhaul (cam chain, water pump, might as well change clutch too whilst at it) - touch up body work.

Optional replace those stretched tyres with normal ones £500? - then she good as new

Oh, and fit replacement sunroof (came free with car

Sell the wheels and get some that fit properly, you'll make money that way.
