I'm 5'9" and am 12st 10lb. Did get down to 11st 6lb at one point but living back at home with mum's home cooking it's soon piled back on

Am now training in the gym so expect to stay the same weight as burn off fat and build muscle!

I know both systems and have none of this irrational anti-EU nonsense 'I'll stick with feet and inches while waving my union jack etc.'
It's just that like most people brought up in this country since decimalisation, I measure things in mm, cm, metres, feet, miles. KM are meaningless. I can do inches, but sodding about with fractions is stupid when the mm/cm system is better (FAR simpler).

Weight, yes I measure parcels and food in kg (lb's and ounces again are needlessly complicated) but when it comes to a persons weight, 55kg and however many metres and cm is meaningless - just can't relate it to anyone. People weight is in Stone, people height is in feet and inches. If someone says they're 13 feet, I know they're a lanky sod. If an eight year old says they weigh 15 stone, I know they're mahoosive, etc.

I agree with wurly, whilst using metric for most measures, miles still rate supreme. Ditto with peoples weight, but happy using g's and kg's for other domains. I have no conception of what an ounce of something represents.

I suppose I should cover all bases and mention volume too
ml and l are the way. Cups, Fluid Ounces etc. and all that jazz are just bollocks. Unless we're talking about beer, when of course we all know what a pint of beer looks like. A litre of beer is hard to picture and you can't weigh up if you're getting good value for your £ or not

Car fuel tanks can be either gallons or litres (if it's not between 12-15 gallons or around 50-65 litres, it's not a 'normal' size). Petrol price in litres is the way to do it, but a receipt that doesn't ALSO tell you how many gallons you filled up with is annoying  because economy is in mpg and otherwise you have to do some conversion stuff

Also temperature. ^C all the way. Sensible scale that's easy to relate - 0^C=frozen, 100^C=boiling and from then on, either way. Easy peasy. I can also do Kelvin, but that's just 'cause I did chemistry and they scale the same, with just 273 difference between the two
^F what's all that about?!

At the end of the day, it is us Brits that are the weirdo's with all this stuff tbf. If although not as weird as the Americans of course, who aren't even satisfied to take the imperial system 'as is' but have to mess even that up... Quarts? Cubic Inch? etc. :nono: They don't even have the same size gallon etc. Absolutely bonkers.

i am very old school with measurements pints and floz cm and mm feet and inches stones for weight but as you may have guessed military service throws that a loop so i also can use km as well as miles kilo's as well as pounds ml as well as floz.

I use bits of my body.

If I need to measure anything longer or heavier than me I just multiply it.

My car weighs 138.4 me's and is 2.43 me's long. Thats an official measurement.

If I need to weigh or measure anything really big I unzip my fly......
