Problem when braking

Post by MaccaIRL » Sat Jan 24, 2015 11:08 am

Weird feeling on the brake pedal but only 1/5 times i apply brakes

Feels like abs kicking in but no warning light on dash :/

Mechanic said it was warped discs and low pads so replaced the fronts and its still doing it

Anyone any ideas?
Flew through mot except for 2 upper steering arms (i think) and a balljoint all of which replaced

Car does pull to one side on occasion too but put that down to wheels needing alligned

Thanks in advance

Did you replace the pads or the discs as well?

There is a section in the manual on how to test your brake booster and master cylinder.

Ive had a few issues with brakes and finally sorted it out by fitting a new master cylinder. Had intermittent problem with pedal going to the floor normally in low speed town traffic was down to perished seal(s) in the mc. However my lude is a BB4 with no abs,tcs or 4ws so not a lot to check to find the problem but as your not getting any fault codes/warning lights it could be the same issue.

If it is warped discs the pedal will pulse when you apply the brakes if you just chaged the pads this won't stop the discs being warped , you'll need new discs as well.

hi does it do it at high speed only or high speed and then when the speed scrubs off it dissipates ?
pulling to one side is caliper not working or low on efficency

Pads and discs changed on front

And no its just randomly, in traffic at 10mph get it sometimes, at 70mph on motorway i get it sometimes

Only difference / change at all is at higher speeds the bumps or whatever get more rapid... at 10mph you feel like youre in a learner car and they cant use the clutch lol

Its not as bad as it was now i have the warped discs and stuff replaced but its still there

As i said, flew through mot even with this happening so braking efficiency and all is passable

Will check to see if i have the mot slips and post the brake efficiency here

Pull the ABS fuse to disable it to see if it is the ABS kicking in or whether it's a mechanical issue.

Brake efficiency at mot before pads and discs changed

Axle 1 (sb)
N/S 3.24 kN
O/S 3.51kN

Imbalance 8%

Brake fluctuation
N/S - 6%
O/S - 9%
