Mine's an SL1210 mk2. The only NAD I have is a bruised old c422 tuner.

Mine is from a similar era actually.

@doggo We sold sooooooooo many of those back when I was in hifi. It's funny as what started as a very solid workhorse and the benchmark DJ deck, has more recently been adopted as a bit of an audiophile deck.

I run an Ariston RD90 Superieur, extremely rare handmade deck. Back when the company I worked at acquired the Ariston name, they acquired all the leftover stock too. There were only a couple of these decks and my boss bought one disgustingly cheap..then promptly sold it to me for the price of my old deck. Jeeez, that was 20 years ago.

That looks an interesting setup... and you can almost see the money in that deck! What are the Amps?

The only Ariston kit I've known was a lot of rungs down the ladder.... my brother used to have a Q Deck turntable which he ran through his Cyrus One amplifier. Sounded pretty good. I'm actually still using that amp today! (Or will be when I get a problem with the phono side fixed. Currently getting by with an also old Technics Suv-570 pxs-cap "Class AA" (Name long enough for ya?) Which is no where near as nice).

I bought the sl1210 off my nephew, who had been using it for DJ'ing. I decided that if I was going to buy another turntable (I was using a cheap old Sony) that one of those would be tough enough to last me forever, and still have spares available for decades, whilst sounding good enough. Still happy with the logic. Run through the Cyrus into some old TDL RTL 3 speakers (Very old, when TDL's were good. I am told these may be too much for the amp, but seems fine) it's good enough for me

Edit. I always thought the sl1210 was designed as an audiophile deck (despite direct drive etc), and then got adopted by DJ's etc?

Either of you remember Linn Sondec's, they were useful bits of kit. Small aside, I still have 2 brand new boxed Ortofon 10 needles for my deck, bought in about 86 - 88, they were 14 quid at the time, funny how you can now buy cheap devices that can store 4000 tunes and totally portable for the same money. And 14 quid was a lot of money in those days

@doggo yeah, it's a lovely bit of kit, made in your neck of the woods when Ariston were a force, rather than a farce

The black amp is a Musical Fidelity Elektra E100 and the pre power is a very old Tripletone that I was given in a state and rebuilt.
Sounds nice and warm...and does actually heat the room up too

Gets very little use these days TBH.
Pretty sure it was the other way round for the 1210, hence the design of the tonearm and the pitch shift etc, but it was 20 years ago now so I could well be wrong...
I actually have a lovely little Sanyo deck that I rebuilt and slightly modded that I'm selling too. Can give you a shout if you fancy something funky! It really is a lovely sounding deck and has a brand new AT95e on it, fantastic little budget cart.

Funny you should mention Sondeks @prelude91 - The Ariston RD11 was actually the deck that Linn copied for the Sondek. They had a hand in making the Ariston, then ripped it off. The guy that designed it, Hamish Robertson maybe?, had a bit of a drinking issue and whilst he took them to court, he died before the outcome. The rest, as they say is history...
Mine was the last hurrah of Ariston. They poured everything they knew into it, as a comparison, the Sondek at the time was about 850 quid, the RD90S was nearly 2k....without tonearm.

Serious audiophile teritory, hence they are as rare as rocking horse jobby.
