When I went we did a cycling tour of the city (if that's your thing) so you get to see a lot of the sights in a short space of time. The trip we used was based at the bottom of the tower in Alexanderplatz, Linky

Berlin's on my list. Although apparently Scandinavian currencies have taken a knock against sterling this year, so good value as well as the Eurozone

Cheers Gayno, will see what the mrs and the rest say. We're meeting a few other friends in Berlin so we're hoping to see some of the more hidden things rather than 'the sights' as it were. I've never been one for the big tourist spots because I don't generally like too many people, but I'm sure if we have an afternoon spare it's something to do to check things off the list

@prelude91 from what I saw of Finland I would say it's well worth going, one of the few countries I could consider moving to (if the language wasn't so drokking hard

). I think Finland is the only Scandinavian country with the € as it goes

it is pricey though, unless you know where to look of course. We're hoping to get to Denmark this year also - as you say the currency exchange is good, the DKK is pretty weak at the moment. We'll see.

Agreed, Donald, I'm not one for being herded around, either. I'd much rather just walk or travel around as the mood takes me. Would love to see some of the historical sites in Berlin, Brandenburg gate, old chancellery building etc.. I love art deco and Bauhaus sort of stuff. And I understand the night life is pretty good too. Denmark is on the list as a bike dealer somewhere in Denmark has an obscure part fort one of my Hondas for sale, can't remember the place off the top of my head. Finland had a sniper during the 2nd war who took out several hundred soviet troops in quick succession. No experience of Scandinavian languages, French is as far as I go, language - wise.

Bauhaus-style watches are superior. I wonder if @bennyboy and @indigolemon would agree.

Some of the dialects/accents in northern Italy remind me of Finnish, but I think that's just the cadence. I was told by a Finnish friend to not even bother trying to learn it for a short trip, as it goes. I can only really remember kana (chicken), patonka (baguette) and raitiovaunu (tram). Also lonkero (IIRC also means tentacle

) is pretty much a generic name for any gin and grapefruit drink

Plus ananas is a given for pineapple in pretty much every language!

always surprised me that in English we use pineapple, rather than anything resembling the Latin (?) Confirm , French is ananas.
