Well, not got as far as I wanted today, but not bad considering my mate was only there between 12 and half 4 and I lost a bloody hour going to get the shovels that TP didn't deliver (turns out the tool shop local to the barn doesn't open on a Saturday FFS, so had to go further afield :roll: ) AND because I'd had the skip delivered the wrong way round :facepalm: (the trap door was backed onto a wall, which made it a nightmare to load the wheel barrows into it!)

Worked like a rhubarb and managed to get about 2/3 of the digging out done.

Also cleared all the crap that had been dug out previously and dug down the final amount for the rear pads.

They're ready to have the mesh cut and placed now, before the concrete is poured.

So, lots to do tomorrow, have to hope it all goes to plan. (plus I have to go and help my mate cut his grass first thing before I can go over the barn :evil: - don't ask... :facepalm: )

Never mind, good excuse to get on the pints of JD and coke :D

Right, well I might as well update this with the progress made.

This was 2pm on Sunday;

Yep, an archeological dig :lol:

And to give a better idea how much concrete and soil had been shifted by hand, this was where all that ended up (that's a 4c.yd skip);
Image

An hour and a half later, all the mesh was cut and fitted. I was too busy cracking on to take any pics then. Here's a pic half way through filling in the hole that just kept on taking...
Image
That's a layer of A393 mesh in the bottom, on 50mm chairs and another layer on the top (they'd not been able to deliver the correct spacers so I had to improvise with blocks of precast!)

We started mixing and pouring at 4pm, my mate left at 10pm and after 133 bags of C40 concrete, at 1:15am, it was full!
This is what it looked like last night after 18 hours cure;

Image
(expertly troweled off with the back of a shovel! ;) )

A bit of a scrape and clean around the edges later;

So 2 weekends work and the floor is back where it started :lol: (but a jobby load stronger!!!)

I ran out of time and concrete to do the rear pads, so they need to be done this weekend. About 4 hours work placing the re-bar and then mixing by hand in a wheelbarrow I think...

Yeah, digging out on the Saturday didn't go according to plan. Started late cause of the gentleman's sausage up with the shovels not being delivered and the skip not turning up till 10am (I was over just after 8am but couldn't get started properly till after 12 as a result!) and that area turned out to be a right arse to dig compared to the back of the barn - full of rocks and stones and the clay was really compacted.
Was a nightmare to dig with just spades. Sunday my mate brought his Mattock over and we pissed through it then!

The concrete just took bloody ages... The mixer could only take 3 bags at a time.

This is definitely why cash and labourers were invented :lol:

Since I bumped Nafe I guess I'd better get my finger out and update this.
Last Sunday Phil and I did some stuff...
Mesh cut and placed;

Concrete hand mixed and poured;

Why only a pic of one hole full of concrete???
Ran out of bloody concrete FFS! :evil:
That was 17 bags that first hole swallowed :shock: and there is no-where that's open past 12:30 on a Saturday that stocks C40, so that was the end of that :troll:
*sigh*
So another £150's worth of readymix to buy and mix then finally I'll be out of the ground with this one...

Great work boys. I missed this thread entirely (due to my time away evidentally). Good to see these car related DIY projects on the forum. If only I could continue with mine now :roll:

Ooft man, that's a lot of concrete!

You do realise once this is done, I may have to conveniently take a drive to you to meet you...

...and rent out your lift for my devious undersealing purposes... :hurr: :lol:
